Smoking And Alcohol

smoking & alcohol

Smoking has no positive effects on a human being. Alcohol, on the other hand, if consumed moderately can help to prevent coronary disease. While this may be good news to alcohol consumer but unfortunately, when both smoking and alcohol get together, they are brewing poison within the body. So, it is advised to not smoke and drink.

The reason is because, even a small amount of alcohol can boost the pleasure effects of nicotine, making you hunger for more nicotine and increase the number of cigarettes you light up. This is based on the survey done to observe the behaviour of the people in the bars and pubs.

It is proven that people who drink more will smoke even more. As such, this lead to the discovery of why people who have quit smoking get back to the old habit after consuming alcohol. The scientists are researching more on smoking cessation by using different drugs to counter the effects.

It is very important to make sure that the people who have stop smoking will stay out of alcohol to avoid getting back to the old habit. In the meantime, there is only hope that there will be a way for the die hard smokers to totally quit smoking without having to stop drinking completely.

The Reason People Smoke

Believe it or not, people smoke for a reason. There is no way people are going to do something without a purpose, because if there is no purpose, why bother to do it at all? The reasons are different for a teenager and an adult. Cigarettes was once considered a luxury where only the rich can afford to buy but now, the situation is different. Cigarettes are cheap and available anywhere in the world, be it a developed country, developing country or third world country.

The fact is most people start smoking during teenage years. The reasons are:

1. Peer Pressure. When other teenagers start to smoke, automatically another teenager will follow. Besides, some teenagers are rejected by the so-called ‘cool group’ and so in order to be accepted, they smoke.

2. Act of Rebellion. Teenagers use smoking as a way to rebel their parents or people of higher authority, for example school teachers or the enforcement.

3. Appear Older. Some teenagers smoke just because they want to look older than they are supposed to be.

As the teenagers gradually become adults, the reasons changed accordingly. In fact, the reasons are more complicated than before. Some tried to quit but failed while others continue to smoke without any intention to stop smoking at all.

The reasons are:

1. Pressure and Stress. As the teenager have grown into becoming an adult, he or she can never escape from pressure and stress so smoking seems to be a way out of problems.

2. Relaxation. Some smokers say that by smoking, they feel relax. They also mention that smoking is a better idea for relaxation than watching movies or having a cup of tea with friends.

3. Peer Pressure. When the smokers are living among each other, it is hard for them to quit so the best way to deal with it is to continue smoking.

4. Habit. Smoking has been part of the daily habit and the smokers can’t break that habit because it is difficult. The truth is if you are determined to stop, you CAN stop smoking.

I believe that many of you want to smoke and the best way to stop smoking is to take the first step and move forward. The first step is to set in your mind you want to quit smoking and then follow by the second step, which is to seek professional help to advise you on the ways to quit smoking, so you can choose the best treatment that is suitable for you according to your preference.

The Impact of Smoking on Babies and Children

baby

Pregnant mothers, please take note. Smoking is harmful to yourself and your unborn child. So if you are a smoking mum-to-be, please quit immediately with the help of a professional. I am sure you want the best for yourself and your child so quit smoking would be the first step to become a better mother. Do you know why you need to quit smoking? Here are the reasons why:

According to research, a pregnant woman is likely to suffer pregnancy complications if she smokes. The complications include premature delivery, low-birth-weight infant, still birth and sudden death infant syndrome. Babies with low weight is the most common cause of sudden death. Babies exposed to second hand smoke are also prone to sudden death.

When the babies or infants are often exposed to the cigarette’s smoke, they are at higher risk to develop asthma, have weak lungs, prone to sickness and have chronic coughing and wheezing.

Nicotine is found in cigarette and when you smoke, the nicotine might constrict the blood vessels and prevent the blood from transferring the oxygen to the infant, causing the infant to suffer cardiovascular problems. The nicotine is also found in breast milk so you are feeding poison to your baby after born.

So, if you love yourself and your baby, quit smoking now and live a better life taking good care of your baby instead of killing both you and your baby.

Quit Smoking If You Love Your Teeth

teeth

There are many reasons why a smoker wants to quit smoking. Apart from the usual lung cancers, now smokers must beware of oral cancer. If you love your mouth, your teeth and you love to eat, you must take note that smoking can cause your gums to recede, the roots of your tooth exposed and losing the ability to taste. I means that your gum is weak, you are going to lose all your teeth soon and you cannot taste your favourite food anymore.

When people lose their teeth in accidents, they rely on the dentures or implants to improve their appearance. However, the problem with implant is that smoking can reduce the amount of blood reaching the implant so the implant might not be effective at all. Smoking does not effect teeth implant only but more than that. Simple procedures such as filling and tooth removal can be ineffective all because of smoking. Antibiotics and other treatments are totally useless for someone who smokes.

According to a study, approximately 32% of smokers need to have the filling replaced, another 10.1% smokers need tooth extraction and 22.5% smokers need dental cleaning. Another fact about smoking is it can increase the build up of plaque and tartar so if you really care about your oral care and treatment, please quit smoking and you will have better oral treatment and the treatment will be effective so you are not wasting your money and time while enjoying a better appearance.

The Cause of Premature Death - Cigarette Smoking

Premature death is define as death that occurs before the average age of death within a population. For example, the average age for all causes of death in US is around 70 years old but the age is reduced to 35 for people who smoke cigarettes. Cardiovasular disease is US no. 1 cause of death in US. Cardiovascular diseases such as heart problems can be prevented by quit smoking.

According to a study being conducted in US, cigarette smoking is responsible for almost 440,000 premature death of a total of 2.4 million deaths annually. This is indeed a shocking fact but cigarette smoking has been rising instead of decreasing and if this continues, there will be even more premature deaths and death itself alone.

The death rate for men who smoke is 60% compared to those who don’t smoke whereas for women it is as high as 90%. The premature deaths can be prevented if they quit smoking. However, because it is difficult to kick the habit, there are many people who are reluctant to give up smoking and embrace a healthier living. Some of them give up after few trials in the beginning.

With so many treatments available to help die hard smokers to quit smoking, there seem to have progress with more and more people joining the quit smoking campaign. There are more and more quit smoking programs coming up and more under research. You have a choice whether to live longer and a healthier life or to live a short and unfulfilling life. It is time to throw the butt away and start to live a new lifestyle, without cigarette.

Early exposure to tobacco smoke causes asthma and allergy

Smoking During PregnancyChildren of mothers who had smoked while pregnant ran double the risk of developing asthma before the age of four. A new study from Swedish Karolinska Institutet shows the consequences of smoking during pregnancy.

It is a well known fact that babies are harmed by tobacco smoke in numerous ways, but it has always been difficult to separate the effects of the mother smoking during pregnancy and passive smoking after birth.

A new study from the Swedish institute Karolinska shows that smoking during pregnancy increases the chances of the child developing asthma. The study showed that children of mothers who had smoked while pregnant ran double the risk of developing asthma before the age of four. There was a clear correlation between the number of cigarettes smoked and the risk of developing asthma.

The study also showed that passive smoking in early childhood increases the risk of allergy. Four-year olds who were exposed to tobacco smoke when they were two months old had allergy antibodies against one or more allergens in the blood, which were more often than their coevals from non-smoking homes.

Smoking during pregnancy is least common amongst the higher educated. Of the 4 000 interviewed mothers, 7 per cent of those with university-level education said that they had smoked while pregnant. Among those who had opted out of tertiary or secondary education, the corresponding number was 20 per cent. The data applies to mothers of children born between 1994 and 1996.
