Creative or Stupid Way To Get People To Quit Smoking?

Do you have trouble to quit smoking? Are you pregnant? If you answered yes to the questions and live in UK you might get the chance to earn some gift vouchers and beauty treatments in order to encourage you to quit smoking.

You can read the whole story here, but let us discuss about why this is a very bad idea.

First of all, giving out free stuff for pregnant women who smoke is seen as a way of encouraging non-smoking women to smoke. This is because they want to get the freebies (especially beauty treatments) because they are free.

There is no one who doesn’t like free stuff but when you are giving out free stuff to encourage people to quit smoking, it is all so wrong. Not only it is not going to help eliminate the numbers of pregnant women who smoke but this act might increase more people to smoke.

Of course, we are constantly looking for ways to encourage people to quit smoking but giving out free stuff is not the correct way of approaching people in order to get them quit smoking.

This is sort of a bribery and that is another problem in the society as well.

The best way to approach pregnant women to quit smoking is perhaps to educate them about the health complications that might happen during labour and what would happen to the baby due to cigarettes smoking.

Why Do I Quit Smoking?

I understand that most people would pledge to quit smoking during New Year (the beginning of the year) and then failed to do so. While, I can’t blame them for not being able to resist a smoke, after all these years of smoking the addiction is strong. Some says they can survive without water but not cigarettes. Therefore the only way to make sure you achieve success in quit smoking is to revisit your reason to quit smoking especially when you are on the brink of failing.

The most important is to ask yourself again why you want to quit smoking. The best way to remind yourself is to jot down the reasons and hang it or paste it somewhere you can see it every day. This way you can keep on reminding yourself why it is important for you to quit smoking and how you can achieve it.

It is best if you can write it this way:

I want to quit because…

You can have one reason or many reasons to support your quit smoking spirit. Write it in a piece of paper or if you prefer on a card board big enough for you to see and read.

Then, hang it somewhere you get to read it such as on the refrigerator or in your work room or simply keep a piece of it in your wallet and take it out to read it again and again when you are feeling not capable to endure the nicotine withdrawal and feel like wanted to smoke another cigarette.

At least this is one of the ways for you to acknowledge that you are sincere in quit smoking, you want to successfully quit smoking and quit smoking is all you want to do.

One Last Cigarette? No!

It is very tempting to have a “one last cigarette” when you quit smoking. Do you know that there is no such thing as “one last cigarette”. For instance, if you had your “one last cigarette”, you will be craving for more. Besides, having a “one last cigarette” is not going to help you quit smoking but drag you back into the pit of death.

How do you curb this urge especially if you have a friend or family member who is tempting you to smoke since they are smoking and you are trying to stop?

You need to be strong, you need to be persistent. Have a strong determination will help you to curb the urge of another smoke. Those with weak determination will easily be persuaded into taking another puff and end up failing.

It is not easy to be so determined at something but if you have set your mind and goal to quit smoking, you will be able to do so.

In times like this, it is advisable to do the following:

  • An afternoon at the movies
  • A pedicure and/or a manicure
  • Take a long walk in nature, and bring the dog!
  • Give yourself an hour to soak in a long hot bath
  • Relax with a good book
  • Head to the gym for a workout and a swim
  • Go on a mini shopping spree
  • Take a power nap
  • Splurge on a hot fudge sundae with all the fixings

When you have completed each task, you will feel better and you don’t even remember to smoke (maybe).

Try it and see if it works for you. I am sure some of it will work, if not all!
