<p>Smoking is a habit that has been around for generations, and the different cultures of the world have been practicing it for various reasons. The reason that has been most commonly cited is the Macho outlook portrayed by celebrities in Hollywood when they smoke in a movie scene and this has led many fans to adopt the habit. Some became addicted because of experimenting and curiosity, while others just love the nicotine-laden smoke. No matter what the reason why you decide to smoke, the fact is that smoking is harmful to your health in the long run and you must kick the habit. Most smokers wonder if there is a way to quit forever that comfort that they enjoy.</p>
<p>Of course there is. Before we go to that, it is good to look at the down side of this addictive habit. It is amazing how people will adamantly continue smoking even when after several warnings and visible evidence of the dangers of smoking. First of all, that cigarette packet is clearly labeled that smoking is dangerous, but who gives a care? Health experts continually give details of the health risks associated with the habit, some of which are fatal such as lung cancer but few heed the call to stop smoking. Records show that every year, smokers collectively spend huge amounts of money on nicotine, common in tobacco. These sums are way beyond the health budgetary allocations of many governments all over the world. The human being is indeed a funny creature!</p>
<p>But also every year, more and more people are trying in vain stop the habit but in most cases are ignorance of ways on how to quit. The big multinational companies have taken advantage of all these and what we have now is a market inundated with quit-smoking aids that ideally do not work. Nicotine patches, gums, pills and sprays do not work most of the time. Studies for instance have shown that nicotine patches work only 11%of the time.</p>
<p>You must have tremendously psychological willpower in order to successfully kick the habit. This is the first step. Will power goes a long way in determining whether you will successful when trying to stop smoking. The second step is to put away everything that has to do with cigarettes like lighters, ashtrays which only serve to awake your desire your smoke; so throw them out if you have to. You must always try to keeping the stop smoking process as natural as possible; keep yourself busy with constructive tasks so that you do not think about smoking.</p>
<p>Once you realize that stopping this bad habit actually lies with you as opposed to the fallacy that big pharmaceutical and multinational companies do, you will find that the fuss about the impossibility of quitting was all a storm in a teacup.</p>

<p>It is said that a large number of smokers have once or in a few occasions tried to stop smoking. Getting addicted to nicotine is a new thing in the world today. It has also been noted that most people who claim to have stopped smoking go back to the same habit after some time. There are few people who will smoke publicly while the majority tends to hide it for fear of what friends and family will think. </p>
<p>For one to comfortably be in a position to rate themselves as being out of the habit, they should be in a three month sober state away from cigarettes. The truth still stands that once you decide to quit smoking, then it should stand out as being a life time commitment. With lung cancer being a major development due to smoking, it has led to thousands of deaths over the past years and so take this in mind as you decide to quit forever.</p>
<p>The first thing is to find a reason for stopping smoking. You may not go far without a good reason. You may consider some of the reasons like health hazards it poses, the fear of addition, falling pregnant or any other viable reason. Once you know why you need to quit smoking, then it will be easy to fight the urge of lighting one more stick. You will then need to identify the reason why you smoke. Among the common ones if stress, anxiety, bored and influence from other smokers. You will have to decide the ways to avoid falling into such situations which may make you want to puff off. Find better things to do in such occasions so as to keep your mind occupied. </p>
<p>At this point it is time to get rid of all tobacco products and accessories that may be lying around in your home, place of work or car. Not having these things near you reduces the urge to smoke. The type of friend and/or family that you hand out with may also be a factor to consider. You may want to stay away from smokers and find someone who also wants to kick the habit so that you may provide support for each other.</p>
<p>Counseling from a professional may also bear fruit for you will be advised on better ways to fight your urge for cigarettes and the changes that may take place body wise once you quit. Try and exercise so as to reduce on the stress and anxiety. These exercise programs will keep you occupied at the same time ensuring you keep fit after the unhealthy indulgence in smoking.</p>
