I Want To Quit Smoking

Story from a young man who has managed to quit smoking.

“I want to quit smoking,” I said.

“What?”, my mum asked.

“I said, I want to quit smoking.”

“Oh, I don’t think you are going to make it. You are a die hard smoker who can never give up smoking, not even for the sake of yourself.”


Quit smoking has always been a torture for me. My mum was right that I can never stop smoking because I was too addicted to smoking. However, I was determined to quit smoking no matter what happened and that was when I met Patrick and he said to me, “I am going to help you” and he kept his word. He was there when I need advice, when I was in trouble and when I need to talk to someone.

There are many people like this young man who is in the dilemma of quit smoking. Some people will say positive things to you but most of the time all you can hear is the negative comments people throwing at you. They are trying to discourage you so that you will be part of them, smokers.

There are many bad effects about smoking that I am sure are enough to make any smokers to quit but then most smokers have been ignorant to listen to the effects and learn more about it. There are more people out there who prefer to just smoke and have fun expecially teenagers, no doubt about it.

When you have take the first step and decide to quit smoking, you must stick to it. How to stick to your own resolution? It is simple.

Everyday when you wake up, remind yourself about your goal for that day and that is to stop smoking, meaning you cannot take a puff for the whole day. Keep on doing this and you will restrain yourself from smoking. Of course it is difficult to refrain from something you have been doing daily but simple ways such as substituting cigarettes with sweets or eat fruits when you crave for a puff can help you take away your dependency on cigarettes.
