The Main Risk Factors of Oral Cancers
Oral cancers mean “cancer of the mouth, tongue, lips, throat, parts for the nose, and larynx”
The signs of oral cancers:
- Sores in the mouth or on the lips that don’t heal and/or bleed easily.
- A white or red patch of skin in the mouth or under the tongue that doesn’t go away.
- A lump in the mouth, throat, or tongue.
- A sore throat that doesn’t go away within a normal period of time.
- Swallowing and/or chewing is difficult or painful.
Having oral cancer is as dangerous as having any other types of cancers. Therefore it is very important to prevent the oral cancer rather than treating it because it is easier to prevent compared to treatment. Treatments for cancer patient can cost up to hundred of thousands.
There are a few factors that cause oral cancers:
The major factor is tobacco (ie: cigarettes). This is due to the substance in the cigarettes. Cigarettes contain thousands of chemicals which are poisonous so it is not surprising that smokers are the ones who contract more oral cancers than anyone else.
Secondly, it is the alcohol. It is said that those who drink alcohol frequently are 6 times more likely to get oral cancers than those who do not drink alcohol.
When tobacco and alcohol are combined, they make the worst poison in the world.
The risk of getting oral cancers increase as we age. Men usually more likely to get oral cancers than women due to the tendency of smoking and drinking.
To prevent oral cancers, all you need to do is live a healthy life without cigarettes and alcohol.
If you are a smoker, stop smoking now before it takes your life away. You never know when that is going to happen so why not quit smoking earlier and start living a healthy life so you can enjoy more years of healthy living with your family?
